About the Journal

Aim and Scope: Journal of Food Distribution Research has an applied, problem-oriented focus on issues of importance facing the US agribusiness economic sector. The Journal’s emphasis is on the flow of products and services through the food wholesale and retail distribution system. Related areas of interest include patterns of consumption, impacts of technology on processing and manufacturing, packaging and transport, data and information systems in the food and agricultural industry, market development, and international trade in food products and agricultural commodities. Business and agricultural and applied economic applications are encouraged.

What Journal of Food Distribution Research will consider for publication: Acceptable methodologies include survey, review, and critique; analysis and syntheses of previous research; econometric or other statistical analysis; and case studies. Teaching cases will be considered. Issues on special topics may be published based on requests or on the editor’s initiative. Potential usefulness to a broad range of agricultural and business economists is an important criterion for publication.

Articles in Journal of Food Distribution Research are indexed or cataloged in Ag Econ Search, Google Scholar, RePEc, Econ Papers, IDEAS, and CAB International.

Journal of Food Distribution Research has been managed and published by the Food Distribution Research Society, Inc since 1969.

Journal of Food Distribution Research is refereed and published three times each year by the Society. The March issue is dedicated to the proceedings from the previous annual FDRS conference, and the July and November issues contain refereed articles.

Journal of Food Distribution Research is an open-access journal and published articles are made freely available under licensing that allows them to be read, copied, re-distributed and re-used.

Journal of Food Distribution Research is pleased to offer authors web-based manuscript submission and peer review. Submit your manuscripts online at Editorial Express.

To submit your manuscript online:

  1. Go to the submission website. Editorial Express
  2. Follow the instructions carefully. You do not need to mail any paper copies of your manuscript.
  3. At the end of the successful submission, a confirmation screen with manuscript number will appear, and you will receive an E-mail confirming that the manuscript has been received by the journal. If this does not happen, please check your submission and/or contact Amy Bekkerman at amy@precisionedits.com.

Each paper submitted is subjected to the following review procedures:

  • It is reviewed by the editor(s) for general suitability for this publication.
  • If it is judged suitable, two reviewers are selected and a double-blind review process takes place.
  • Based on the recommendations of the reviewers, the editors then decide whether the particular article should be accepted as it is, revised or rejected.

The cost of publishing is covered by a page processing charge of $65/page on acceptance, that the author’s funder or institution is expected to meet. The decision to accept a paper for publication rests solely with the Journal of Food Distribution Research editors regardless of the research funding source.


Publication Ethics

The manuscript is your original work, does not duplicate any other previously published work and cites and fully acknowledges previous research that has heavily influenced your work (e.g., the hypothesis, the study design and the data used). The manuscript has been submitted only to the Journal - it is not under consideration or peer review or accepted for publication or in press or published elsewhere. All listed authors know of and agree to the manuscript being submitted to the Journal; and the manuscript contains nothing that is abusive, defamatory, fraudulent, illegal, libelous, or obscene.

Text and/or data taken directly or closely paraphrased from earlier published work that has not been adequately acknowledged or referenced will be considered plagiarism. Submitted manuscripts in which such text is identified will be withdrawn from the editorial process.
